After your arraignment, the next court appearance is called the pre-trial. This is essentially a scheduling hearing where the court wants to determine where the case is going to go. In other words, are you able to settle the case at this point? Can the prosecutor offer a plea bargain that is acceptable to you? Or are there pre-trial issues that need to be resolved.
Pre-trial issues are things like whether or not there is a particular defense that needs to be addressed by the court before the case can move onto trial. Before the pre-trial, we will discuss with you what defenses there may be, and what the best way for us to pursue them. We will also discuss with you whether or not trial is the best option for you.
