Another problem with the DataMaster is that in measuring the alcohol in the breath sample, it cannot determine where the alcohol came from. In other words, it is possible under certain circumstances, for the alcohol to come from your mouth or your oral cavity, rather than from your lungs. This would result in a false high reading.
For example, if you had a medical condition that would cause alcohol to be trapped in your mouth, such as periodontal disease or if you wear dentures, or if you have heartburn or GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), then this could bring the alcohol from other parts of your body such as your stomach or your mouth. These molecules would be contaminated into your breath and then into the machine. The breath machine then interpretes it as breath alcohol, which would cause a false high reading.
It is important for us to obtain a thorough and detailed medical history so that we can determine if these defenses apply in your case.
